Innovation That Shapes the Cabinetry Industry

At Packard Cabinetry, innovation has always been part of how we approach custom kitchen design and cabinetry. For more than 50 years, we have worked closely with some of the country’s leading cabinet manufacturers—not simply selecting from existing product lines, but helping develop new ideas, details, and solutions that sometimes become part of those manufacturers’ standard offerings. 

The latest example comes from Grabill Custom Cabinetry, now part of Revive and one of the nation’s premier custom cabinetry manufacturers. 

Working directly with Packard Cabinetry designer Ashley Socin in Mebane, North Carolina, Grabill developed a new door design based on an innovative concept created for one of our projects. That design, now known as the DS Door, has been adopted by Grabill as a standard offering available throughout its dealer network. 

That is something we are very proud of. 

From Custom Solution to Industry Standard 

At Packard Cabinetry, we don’t simply sell cabinetry. We continually challenge what is available and work with our manufacturing partners to create solutions for our clients. 

Over the years, several of those ideas have ultimately influenced manufacturers’ product offerings. 

• Bremtown Cabinetry introduced new wood hood designs following special-order concepts created by Rae Packard. 
• Mouser Cabinetry expanded its offerings after working with Designer Stephanie Schaefer on unique design requests and specialized cabinetry details. 
• And now Grabill Custom Cabinetry has introduced the DS Door, inspired by a Packard Cabinetry concept developed with Ashley Socin’s collaboration. 

Rae Packard has also designed custom wood hoods for multiple cabinet manufacturers including Rutt Cabinetry , along with creatively engineered paper towel pullouts and other complex specialty accessories. A number of these one-of-a-kind solutions were later incorporated into manufacturers’ regular product lines. 

It is a good example of what true custom cabinetry can mean: not simply changing dimensions or finishes, but designing something that did not previously exist. 

Innovative Kitchen Design in North Carolina 

Ashley Socin’s work also reflects the growing depth of Packard Cabinetry’s North Carolina kitchen design practice. 

Ashley recently led the cabinetry design for a full-home renovation in Hillsborough, North Carolina, near Chapel Hill and Durham. The project incorporated a sophisticated combination of quarter-sawn white oak, walnut, and hickory, creating a warm, highly tailored interior throughout the home. 

The project demonstrates how thoughtful material selection, architectural detailing, and carefully designed custom kitchen cabinets can create continuity from the kitchen into adjoining rooms and throughout an entire residence. 

For homeowners searching for exceptional kitchen cabinets in North Carolina, the difference is often found in these details—the ability to go beyond standard catalog selections and develop cabinetry specifically for the architecture, lifestyle, and character of the home.
